About PALS

This course is for healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children. The goal of PALS is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.

Certification
Upon successful completion:
  • Earn an AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) credential, valid for two years.
Prerequisites
  • A current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (usually through the American Heart Association or a similar recognized organization) is required. This ensures that participants already have essential skills in CPR, AED use, and basic airway management before advancing to PALS.
  • PALS is designed for healthcare providers who respond to pediatric emergencies. Typically, participants are physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals involved in pediatric patient care.
  • Participants are expected to have a basic understanding of the PALS algorithms and clinical scenarios (such as bradycardia, tachycardia, shock, and respiratory failure) prior to the course. Reviewing the PALS Provider Manual is recommended.

Course Overview

American Heart Association PALS is for healthcare professionals who respond to emergencies in infants and children and for personnel in emergency response, transport teams, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care providers. The goal for PALS is to improve outcomes for pediatric patients by preparing healthcare providers to effectively recognize & intervene in patients with respiratory emergencies, shock, & cardiopulmonary arrest.

Audience
The audience for Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification typically includes healthcare professionals who are involved in the management and care of critically ill or injured infants and children such as RNs, Physicians, Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), Respiratory Therapists, Physician Assistants (PAs) and Nurse Practitioners (NPs), Critical Care Transport Teams and Other Allied Health Professionals.
Completion Requirements
To successfully complete the course and earn your AHA PALS credential (valid for two years), you must:
  • Register and pay for the course.
  • Bring necessary items: PALS textbook, pre-test score, current AHA BLS credential, photo ID.
  • Watch all required videos.
  • Participate fully in all stations and discussions.
  • Pass the written exam (50 MCQs) with at least an 84%.
  • Complete two mega-code scenarios.
  • Finish the post-course evaluation.

  • Register Early: Ensure to register at least 30 days in advance to give yourself ample time to prepare and review course materials.
  • Consider eBook Option: If you're ordering a textbook for the PALS course and there's uncertainty about its delivery time, consider opting for an eBook instead. Delivery of the eBook typically takes 3-5 business days via email, which ensures you can access the material promptly.
  • Check Zoom Functionality: Make sure Zoom is fully installed and functional on your device before the course. Test it to ensure there are no issues with audio or video.
